Affleck's role will include offering programming input, reaching out to studios, filmmakers and talent, connecting the festival with local charities, and advising on its growth into, what he said, "a world-class film festival." In the release Affleck also mentioned his goals to integrate the 100% volunteer-run festival "year-round into the Greater Boston arts community," as well as into schools and neigborhoods.
Included in Affleck's filmography are Gus Van Sant's "Good Will Hunting" and "Gerry," for which he co-wrote the screenplay, "I'm Still Here," which he directed and produced, and "The Assassination of Jesse James," for which he received an Oscar nomination for his supporting role. Casey Affleck's "Lonesome Jim," by Steve Buscemi, and Michael Winterbottom's "The Killer Inside Me" both screened in previous years at IFFBoston.
On the partnership, IFFBoston program director Adam Roffman said "Casey has exemplified the kind of artistic and risk-taking choices in his work that we strive to champion each year at the festival, and we are very excited to welcome him into the IFFBoston team."
The complete film lineup for IFFBoston will be announced on March 20.
