Cinedigm Entertainment Group and Tribeca Films have paired together to acquire the U.S. rights to director Craig Zisk's "The English Teacher," starring Julianne Moore and Greg Kinnear.
"The English Teacher" stars Moore as a beloved English teacher whose life becomes disrupted after a former student (Kinnear) returns to the school after failing as a playwright. Nathan Lane costars in the film as a drama teacher and colleague of Moore's, who encourages Kinnear to stage his own play. The film is the directorial debut for Zisk, whose past credits are primarily in directing television series such as "Weeds" and "The Big C."
Speaking about the acquisition, Cinedigm Vice President of Acquisitions Vincent Scordino stated, "'The English Teacher' has everything audiences want in an independent film. it cleverly tells an honest relatable and extremely funny story of self-discovery and reinvention that pops with great performances."
Scordino negotiated the deal alongside Tribeca Film's Nick Savva. No official release date has been set for the film, but Cinedigm and Tribeca plan to release the film this spring on VOD, followed shortly after by a theatrical release.
