La Residence de la Cinefondation, associated with the Cannes Film Festival, will hold its 18th session from March 1-July 15, 2009 with 6 new candidates for a programme "which helps young filmmakers write a screenplay and prepare for the production of their first or second feature film."
Gilles Jacob and his jury chose, from over 160 applicants, one female and five male directors: Yael Gidron (Israeli, 27) with "Nature Film" (1st feature), Rafael Kapelinski (Polish, 38) with "Up on The Roof" (1st feature), Martin Turk (Slovenian, 30) with "Feed Me With Your Words" (1st feature), Andreas Bolm (German, 37) with "The Revenant" (1st feature), Julio Hernandez-Cordon (Guatemalan, 33) with "Dust" (2nd feature), and Esteban Larrain (Chilian, 35) with "La Vierge de Penablanca" (2nd feature).
65% of the projects La Residence de la Cinefondation has supported since its foundation in 2000 have been made and, for the most part, distributed. This figure can be raised to 89% if the 22 films currently in pre-production are taken into account.
