CineMart Announces Selections for 23rd Event in Rotterdam

The 35th International Film Festival Rotterdam has announced 45 projects that will screen in its market, CineMart, which will take place January 29 - February 2 in the Dutch city. The program includes new productions by established art house directors such as Pablo Trapero, Guy Maddin, Alexej German Jr and Li Yang. "Selecting among these entries means knowing in detail what our CineMart attendants are looking for. We introduce the most promising emerging filmmaking talent and offer continuity to filmmakers," commented CineMart's managing team Marit van den Elshout and Bianca Taal in a joint statement.

The 23rd CineMart includes new editions of the Rotterdam Lab, Passions & Promises and the Rotterdam-Berlinale Express. The Rotterdam Lab is a four day training workshop for young and emerging producers to build up their international network and their experience at an international festival and market. Passions & Promises, which is organized by European Film Promotion and the IFFR, offers European filmmaking talent the opportunity to present themselves and their film in official selection. The Rotterdam-Berlinale Express selects three CineMart Projects to go to Berlin as selections of the Berlinale's CoProduction Market. The 2006 International Film Festival Rotterdam takes place January 25 - February 5.


Organizers also unveiled a selection of previous Cinemart Films that will screen at the 2006 Rotterdam Film Festival, including Miranda July's "Me and You and Everyone We Know" (USA), Benito Zambrano's "Habana Blues" (Spain), Kornel Mundruczo's "Johanna" (Hungary), Philippe Garrel's "Regular Lovers" (France), Bohdan Slama's "Something Like Happiness" (Czech Republic), Philippe Faucon's "The Betrayal" (France), Marcelo Gomes' "Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures" (Brazil), and the world premieres of Natalie Alonso Casale's "Figner, The End of A Silent Century" and Andre van der Hout & Adri Schrover's "The Murder Ballads", both are from The Netherlands.
