Thanks to your votes, a new documentary about transgender activist, elder and civil rights hero Miss Major, "MAJOR!" won this weekend's Project of the Week contest!
Congratulations to "MAJOR!" and director Annalise Ophelian. The filmmaker will receive a digital distribution consultation from SnagFilms and the film is now officially a candidate for Project of the Month. That winner will be awarded with a consultation from the Tribeca Film Institute.
Here's what the project's about:
This is the story of one woman's journey, a community’s history, and how caring for one another can be a revolutionary act.
Miss Major Griffin-Gracy is a Black transgender woman, a formerly incarcerated person, a former sex worker, an elder, a community leader, and an internationally-recognized human rights activist. From the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion to her current work as Executive Director of the Transgender GenderVariant Intersex Justice Project (TGIJP), she's worked tirelessly for transgender rights for over 40 years. MAJOR! explores her story, and takes audiences on a journey through LGBT history.
