Continuing the Bergman streak is the release of "Autumn Sonata," the only film Bergman ever made with director Ingmar Bergman, now on DVD and Blu-ray.
Rounding out the crop of DVD and Blu-ray releases is "La Cage aux Folles," the groundbreaking comedy that was ahead of its time, telling the story of a gay couple who are the manager and star performer at a drag club and agree to pretend to be straight when the conservative parents of their son's fiancée drop by. The film spawned the popular American remake "The Birdcage," as well as a Broadway musical.
Criterion will drop a new Blu-ray edition of "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold," the tale of a Cold War spy on his final mission in East Germany, directed by Martin Ritt ("Hud"), from the best-selling novel by John le Carré. Richard Burton and Claire Bloom co-star in this tragic thriller suffused with Ritt's characteristic social and political conscience.
Also coming to Blu-ray is "Slacker," the seminal 90s indie from Richard Linklater ("Dazed and Confused") which documents a day in the life of the Austin's eccentric youth.
