criticWIRE This Week: "Nine," "Heart" and "Victoria" Hit Screens

This week, Rob Marshall's "Nine," Scott Cooper's "Crazy Heart," and Jean-Marc Vallée's "The Young Victoria" will each open in limited release in an attempt to prove a viable alternative to the wide opener "Avatar." To make your decision as to which option might be your best bet (that is, if you find yourself in the "Avatar"-avoiding minority), indieWIRE's criticWIRE, which features hundreds of grades for new and recent films from dozens of film critics and bloggers, took on all give films, with "The Young Victoria" leading in terms of critical reaction.

More than 100 film critics and bloggers, so far, now have their own pages on the indieWIRE site. The new criticWIRE section includes RSS feeds and links for the individual writer's blog, website and Twitter account, as well as grades for current films and direct links to reviews they've written. The list of critics and graded films will continue to grow, leading up to our annual indieWIRE Critics Poll later this month.

"The Young Victoria" tells the story of the turbulent first years of the reign of Queen Victoria, played by Emily Blunt, and her romance with Prince Albert (Rupert Friend). Directed by French-Canadian Jean-Marc Vallée ("C.R.A.Z.Y."), the film averaged a "B" grade from criticWIRE's members, with grades divisively ranging from a "A-" from Marie Claire critic Caryn James, to a "C-" from Pop Matters critic Cynthia Fuchs.

Rob Marshall's highly anticipated, ridiculously star-studded musical "Nine" averaged the lowest grade - a "C+" - and was even more divisive, with grades ranging from a "B+" to a "D"

Check out the links below for further takes on both "Nine" and "The Young Victoria," as well as their fellow opener and Jeff Bridges Oscar hopeful, "Crazy Heart," and dozens of films that recently opened in theaters. Grades will continue to be added throughout the week, so please check back.
