>> Leitch and Hoffman Team for Presidential Campaign Doc
(indieWIRE/ 8.21.00) -- With the presidential campaign heating up following
the recent party conventions, Donovan Leitch and Phillip Seymour Hoffman have announced plans for a " full-length, non-partisan, interactive feature
documentary" on the subject. Titled "The Last Party 2000" (LP2K), project is
a follow-up to the 1992 campaign doc, "The Last Party." Leitch co-wrote the
first installment with Robert Downey Jr. who appeared as the on camera host.
LP2K is being hosted by Hoffman and directed by Leitch.
According to an announcement, the doc will explore the conventions as well
as protests, and the candidates. A webcast is planned, as is a
work-in-progress screening on the eve of Election Day in November. The team
are promising coverage of election results and a theatrical release on
Inauguration Day in January.
"Being involved with a project of this magnitude and political scope is
incredibly important to me. We hope to utilize this project to educate as
many Americans as possible and tackle the issues the candidates won't
address," commented Donovan Leitch in a prepared statement.
Among the segments planned include a visit to a camp for peaceful protesting
techniques with Leonardo DiCaprio, a day with both Vice President Al Gore and Governor George W. Bush, an interview with President Bill Clinton and interviews with Marilyn Manson, Rosie Perez, Donald Trump, Pat Buchanan, Rosie O
