>> King's Mob Productions to Launch DiY-FEST

(indieWIRE/01.12.01) -- Tomorrow morning, Matt Pizzolo, co-founder of King's Mob Productions, climbs into an old Subaru Outback and prepares to visit 30
cities with his posse, building a caravan of artists along the way.

This is the launch of DiY-FEST, a not-for-profit touring festival designed
to enable youth to work together to overcome the Digital Divide, as well as
bring together independent artists from all walks of life. Filmmakers, DV
pioneers, writers, musicians, internet publishers, and photographers are
among the creators involved in each city on the tour. DiY-FEST will feature
screenings, media workshops, and well-known speakers like Travis Keller from
Buddyhead, Brigette M. Moore from Black Grrrl Revoltion, Charlie Ahearn of Wild Style, Zack Exley of GWBush.com, and Abel Ferrara.

"What we discovered when we took our film, "Threat," on tour is that there
are so many people working in isolation on indie d.i.y. projects in all
media," says Pizzolo, "And we wanted to create a festival to celebrate that
independent spirit and to break down those barriers, so that people from
different subcultures and scenes could work together, collaborate, and
appreciate each other's work."

After a kick-off tonight at CBGB's Lounge in New York City, the festival
will tour the country through May. The first stop will be Pittsburgh, and
dates for each city on the tour are available at www.diyfest.com. Tonight's
party also marks the start of a DiY-FEST companion series of events which
will take place weekly at CBGB's Lounge though the end of February. These
parties include DiY film and video screenings, speakers such as Jim
Jarmusch, and various musical performances. [John Leahan]
