>> Lions Gate Set to Release Kevin Smith's "Dogma" on November 12th

indieWIRE has learned that this week Lions Gate Films will announce its
acquisition of Kevin Smith's new film, "Dogma." Harvey and Bob Weinstein
sold the "Dogma" rights to Lions Gate after personally buying them from
Miramax in April, heading off a potential showdown with Disney surrounding
the movie's Catholic content. Lions Gate is planning to release the film on
November 12th.

In a note published this weekend on the News Askew site
http://www,newsaskew.com, Kevin Smith indicated that the release date
would be
the 12th, and discussed the early P.R. push for the picture. Smith and
"Dogma"
star Chris Rock recently did an interview for Premiere Magazine, and the
filmmaker
has already spoken with Rolling Stone and Vanity Fair for Fall articles.
According to Smith, a teaser poster has been completed and will be released
soon. Alanis Morissette, who also appears in the movie, recently completed a
soundtrack song for the movie's closing credits, according to Smith. The
film also stars Linda Fiorentino, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Salma Hayek and
Alan Rickman.

"Dogma" has received a lot of press since its Cannes debut, mostly thanks to
William Donohue's Catholic League which has been vigilant in protesting the
movie, despite the fact that they admit having not yet seen the picture. The
Catholic League has purchased advertisements in the New York Times to voice
is oppostition to the movie and Mirmax Films. The League also recently began
distributing booklets targeted at the movie.

>> "Blair Witch" Mainstream Media Mania

Can it get any bigger? "The Blair Witch Project" dominated newsstands
yesterday, gracing the covers of this week's "Time" and "Newsweek," an
unprecedented achievement for a film, let alone a low-budget non-studio
release. Enough said.
