>> ICAST Contest Winner Takes $40,000
(indieWIRE/7.13.00) -- More than 150 entries were received for
ICAST's "Show Off Your Shorts" contest -- the online outlet announced
the winners this week. Alex Weed's "Perfect Accident" took the grand
prize and $40,000 cash, while four runners-up were given $15,000 each
-- John Hargrove's "Vegetable Pornography" (comedy), Tom Birmingham's "From Up Above" (horror), David Cassidy's "Man Behind the Mask" (mock/rock/documentary, and Kenny Meehan's "Incognito Superhero" (action/adventure).
The winners were chosen by a panel that included director Michael
Lehmann, producer Mitchell Robbins, filmmaker Cauleen Smith, music video director Nigel Dick, and actress Sara Gilbert.
"The quality of the submissions for 'Show Off Your Shorts' went
beyond what you see at film schools. iCAST's film contest
demonstrates that even with limited budgets, independent filmmakers
using the digital format can create really good content for the
Web," commented Michael Lehmann in a prepared statement. "As the
technology gets better, making films will become as easy as writing
poetry, and with a distribution platform like iCAST, independent
filmmakers can gain an audience in a way that, in the past, only
professionals have been able to do."
