(indieWIRE/11.01.01) -- The North American rights to "Me Without You" have
been nabbed by Fireworks Pictures and Samuel Goldwyn Films. The comedic drama stars Michelle Williams, Anna Friel and Kyle MacLachlan from the UK's Capitol Films.


The film, which screening in the Cinema Del Presente section at the 2001
Venice Film Festival, was described in a prepared statement as a
"provocative, funny and sometimes heartbreaking film set against the
backdrop of the fashion, music and culture of 70's, 80's and 90's London,
(following) the tempestuous thirty-year friendship of two women and the men
in their lives."


Sandra Goldbacher wrote and directed the movie, it is her follow-up to her

(indieWIRE/11.01.01) -- A true titan of entertainment PR passed away this
week. Veteran press agent, John Springer, died Tuesday morning of congestive
heart failure at New York Hospital surrounded by his family.


Springer began his career in 1948 at RKO Pictures as head of magazine
publicity followed by a similar position at Twentieth Century Fox. Following
a brief stop as head of Rogers & Cowan's New York office, he opened John
Springer Associates. The endless list of Hollywood film and New York theatre
royalty is a mind-boggling who's who of the late 20th century including
Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, Montgomery Clift, Bette Davis,
Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Warren Beatty, Gene Kelly, Grace Kelly,
Lauren Bacall, Beulah Bondi, Gary Cooper, Peter Sellers, Lee Strasberg and
Henry Fonda to only name some.


A short list of the films he was involved with were "Bonnie and Clyde,"
"Midnight Cowboy," "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf," "The Graduate," Fellini's "Roma," and "Death of a Salesman." His involvement in theatre and dance included the Alvin Ailey Trouppe, "The Music Man," "Camelot," Richard Bruton's "Hamlet" and the Broadway and touring engagements of Marlene Dietrich and Yves Montand among countless others.


Additionally, Springer was recognized as a film historian, author and
originator of the format for Tribute Evenings to notable film stars.
He also produced all the film segments for the "Night of 100 Stars I, II,
and III" specials and penned a series of Citadel books considered film
book classics.


Springer also took an active role in countless film festivals at home
and abroad in addition to work in "early indie" films like "Polyester."
John is survived by his family including his son, New York-based
publicist Gary Springer of Springer/Chicoine Public Relations. A funeral
mass will be held on Friday, November 2nd at St. Vincent Ferrer Church
on 66th and Lexington. [Brian Brooks]
