The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles announced that the recipient of the 2012 Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film will be Daniel Day-Lewis. Day-Lewis, a two-time Academy Award-winning actor, will be honored at the BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Awards on November 7 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

This award is not Day-Lewis' first recognition from the British Academy -- he won two previous BAFTA awards for his portrayal of Daniel Plainview in "There Will Be Blood" and for his role as Bill "The Butcher" in "Gangs of New York." The BAFTA Britannia Awards Ceremony represent the academy's highest recognition. Proceeds from the event will benefit BAFTA-sponsored scholarship, education, community outreach, and archival projects.

“We are thrilled to bestow Daniel with this prestigious award. His remarkable body of work ensures that this honor is more than well-deserved, and we are excited to include him among the other esteemed honorees of the evening,” said Britannia Chairman, Nigel Lythgoe.

Day-Lewis will be honored at the gala dinner alongside the night's other honorees, which include Quentin Tarantino for the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing; Daniel Craig for the Britannia Award for British Actor of the Year; Matt Stone and Trey Parker for the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellency in Comedy; and video game designer Will Wright for the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment.

The 2012 Britannia Awards are presented by BBC America. This year marks the 25th anniversary of BAFTA, and for the first time ever, the award ceremony will be broadcast as a two-hour special on BBC America on Sunday, November 11 at 8 pm.
