David Cronenberg's 'Cosmopolis' Heading To US Theaters August 17th

Rob Pattinson in David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis."

Entertainment One Films US has set a date for David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis." On August 17th, the film will open in New York and Los Angeles, expanding into additional markets soon after.

Based on the novel by Don DeLillo, the film stars Robert Pattinson as a 28-year old financial whiz kid who heads out in his tricked-out stretch limo to get a haircut from his father’s old barber. Along the way, he's joined by a cast including Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon, Mathieu Amalric, Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, Samantha Morton and Paul Giamatti.

The film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival last month to mixed responses. Indiewire's Eric Kohn said that "'Twilight' fans won't respond to Pattinson's uncharacteristic turn and only diehard Cronenberg fans are likely to spread positive word of mouth" in his review.

Entertainment One is releasing the film in the US well after it does so in Canada and the UK, where release dates are set for June 8th and June 15th, respectively.

The problem is the same old problem. American sites think only U.S critics count. Here's a tip Indiewire. Total the Euro critiques plus U.S - and read Justin Chang while you're at it.

What is this site's problem? Why can't you aggregate reviews and objectively conclude the obvious? The majority - yes, majority of critics loved this movie.

As for these generalizations about millions of people interested in Pattinson's career, it's incredibly absurd to think these people know nothing of Cronenberg's work, or only reside in the teen age group.

Grow up Indiewire. You're supposed to be better than this.

Didn't David Cronenberg give an earlier interview with the date 12-12-12? As a long time fan of Cronenberg I try to see all his movies. I had to travel 30 miles for A Dangerous Method and will likely have to do it again for Cosmopolis if it comes near my location. This release date does not seem good for a film of this nature.

    Mr. Kohn,
Get off your high horse and open your eyes to your surroundings. There are a lot of Twihards out there who are also Cronenberg fans. Not all Twihards are prepubescent girls who won't even get in the theatre. Do your job correctly and get some research done. I am sick of you and the rest of the industry's pretentious movie 'critics' underestimating fans of a big franchise.

False, I'm a fan of Cronenberg and I've watched Robert Pattinson fans have supported this film especially on social networks. They really appreciate Cronenberg and are happy that Cronenberg and Robert Pattinson will be working again in the future

the reviewer liked the movie. (He gave the film a B grade) but this article make it sound like he didn't. I don't get it.

Why don't you quote Simon Abrams review as well? Talk about one-sided reporting.
