David Cronenberg's "Map to the Stars," the Hollywood-set drama which earned Julianne Moore a best actress award in Cannes, has been acquired by Focus World, Variety reports. Could this be Moore's chance to finally win an Academy Award, after four nominations?
According to Variety, Focus World (the alternative division of Focus Features) acquired U.S. distribution rights from eOne entertainment with plans for an early 2015 release, following screenings this fall at the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival. It's possible that the film could get an Oscar-qualifying theatrical release at the end of 2014.
In his review of the film at Cannes, Eric Kohn wrote, "The cast syncs with the material's wicked extremes" and singled out Moore's performance as her best since "Magnolia."
With a script by novelist Bruce Wager, the film also features performances by Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska, John Cusack, Olivia Williams and Evan Bird in a breakout role.
