Director Sidney to Receive New DGA Award

The Director's Guild of America announced yesterday that former DGA
President George Sidney will be the recipient of the innaugural DGA
Presidents Award
. It will be presented at the organizations 50th DGA
Awards dinner next week in Los Angeles and New York.


The award is given at the discretion of the all former DGA Presidents
and the current DGA President. Born in 1916, George Sidney began his
film career as a messenger for MGM. He directed "Our Gang" episodes and
a host of feature films, including "As Thousand Cheer," "Anchors
Aweigh
," "The Three Musketeers," "Annie Get Your Gun," "Show Boat," and
"Kiss Me Kate," "Bye Bye Birdie," and "Viva Las Vegas."
