Directors Guild to Sponsor Sundance Directors Award
The Directors Guild of America has created the Sundance Film
Festival Directing Award, a prize which the DGA will also sponsor. The honor
will be bestowed upon a dramatic and a documentary filmmaker.
"It is appropriate for the DGA to help put the spotlight on the next
generation of filmmakers. We see this award as a way of presenting those
starting out part of a foundation on which to build their careers," Directors
Guild president Gene Reynolds said. "We are mindful of the important work
being done in the independent and low budget fields, work made with limited
resources but rich in invention and creativity, breaking into new areas of
story, acting and filmmaking."
Other awards and benefits sponsored by the Directors Guild of America include:
the DGA Student Film Awards for Minority Students; the DGA Directing Award
for Student Filmmakers; and the Speakers Roster, a list of DGA members
willing to discuss movie-making at educational institutions.
