Atom Egoyan's Oscar nominated screenplay to "Hereafter" has
been posted on the Fine Line Features website. Based on the acclaimed
novel by Russell Banks, "The Sweet Hereafter" is a powerful tale about a
small town coming to terms in the aftermath a tragic schoolbus accident.
Traditionally, Oscar-nominated screenplays are send to Academy members
for voting consideration, but Fine Line has become the first studio to
post the screenplay of a current release on its website, making it
accessible not only to Academy members, but to the public as well.
Egoyan, who is also nominated for best director, was quoted as saying "It's
a thrill for any writer or director when you know that more people are
learning about you work, whether it means that more of them are seeing
your film or more of them are reading your screenplay. It's exciting
that Fine Line is exploring more venues by which people can appreciate
"The Sweet Hereafter," which is currently playing in major cities
including New York and Los Angeles, is also nominated for a Indepdendent
Spirit Award in the Best Foreign Film category.
