New York-based, production, distribution, and sales company, Elephant Eye Films, has acquired worldwide rights to "Wasted Youth," co-written and co-directed by Argyris Papadimitropulos and Jan Vogel.
Both US and international rights distribution rights are available and will be shepherded by the Head of Distribution and Sales, Demetri Makoulis, Elephant Eye’s newest member of the team, who negotiated the deal.
“'Wasted Youth' captures everything that is important to us in a film, including a new perspective melded with thoughtful and beautiful storytelling and imagery. The current Greek film movement continues to inspire us and we feel very fortunate to be working with such a talented and forward thinking group of filmmakers,” says Kim Jose, who is partners with David Robinson as the co-Presidents of Elephant Eye Films.
Elephant Eye Films’ newest acquisition tells parallel stories of a teenage skater and a middle-aged man in crisis, whose paths are seemingly destined to cross. All set during a scorching hot day in Athens, "Wasted Youth" poetically captures a country in crisis. Having world-premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival as the opening night film, "Wasted Youth" has begun making the festival rounds, including recent packed-house screenings at Guadelajara Film Festival. Nutopia opened the film theatrically in Greece on March 17th.
Elephant Eye looks forward to premiering a larger slate of films to buyers at this year’s Cannes market, which will include the in-house produced "Old Cats" by Sebastian Silva and Pedro Peirano.
"Wasted Youth" is co-directed by Argyris Papadimitropoulos and Jan Vogel, produced by Argyris Papadimitropoulos and George Karnavas, and executive produced by Konstantinos Kontovrakis.
Says the film’s producer, George Karnavas: "'Wasted Youth' was made because some of us were crazy enough to believe that it was possible to create a film with so little means and so much passion. We are absolutely thrilled with the film’s reception by audiences and are excited that it will now find expert guidance in the hands of the Elephant Eye Films team, who have the knowledge and experience to maximize its exposure in the international market."
