Entertainment One has acquired North American rights to Charlie Matthau's "Freaky Deaky," starring Crispin Glover and Christain Slater, and based on Elmore Leonard's 1988 novel of the same name. The film premiered this year at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Here's the synopsis per eOne:

In "Freaky Deaky," Chris Mankowski’s (Burke) first day on the sex crimes unit of the Detroit Police Department does not go well.  Not only does he fall for the first person to report an assault to him, he’s suspended for investigating the rich, powerful and completely drunk Woody Ricks (Glover). Chris takes matters into his own hands - only to discover there are all kinds of people trying to get something - money, revenge, or both from Woody.

Tribeca Comedy Starring Crispin Glover, Billy Burke, Michael Jai White,

Christian Slater, and Andy Dick Pays Homage to 70s Filmmaking

CANNES (May 23, 2012)– Entertainment One (“eOne”) announced today from the 2012 Cannes Film Festival that the company is acquiring all North American rights to director Charlie Matthau’s homage to 1970s filmmaking, FREAKY DEAKY. Matthau also penned the screenplay, which is based on Elmore Leonard’s 1988 novel of the same name. The film stars Crispin Glover, Billy Burke, Michael Jai White, Christian Slater, Andy Dick, Breanne Racano and Sabina Gadecki. Matthau andJudd Rubin produced the project, with George Eyde, Louis Eyde, Nathaniel Eyde, Robert Cantrell, Steven Berez, Donald Zuckerman, and Lee Greenberg executive producing. FREAKY DEAKY had its world premiere earlier this year at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival.

In FREAKY DEAKY, Chris Mankowski’s (Burke) first day on the sex crimes unit of the Detroit Police Department does not go well.  Not only does he fall for the first person to report an assault to him, he’s suspended for investigating the rich, powerful and completely drunk Woody Ricks (Glover). Chris takes matters into his own hands - only to discover there are all kinds of people trying to get something - money, revenge, or both from Woody.

Matthau previously directed the critically-acclaimed THE GRASS HARP, based on Truman Capote's novella and starring his father Walter, Jack Lemmon, and Sissy Spacek. He is currently in pre-production on his next feature, THE SUGAR SHACK.

“Elmore Leonard’s work has inspired so many great films over the years,” commented Michael E. Rosenberg, President, eOne Films US, “and Entertainment One is incredibly excited to bring this new, star-studded adaptation of FREAKY DEAKY to North American audiences.”

Noted Matthau: “We are thrilled that our homage to 1974 will be released by eOne, very much the independent filmcompany of 2012.”

The deal for FREAKY DEAKY was negotiated by Sejin Croninger for eOne with Ben Weiss at Paradigm’s Motion Picture Finance Group on behalf of the filmmakers.
