Faye Dunaway is the talisman for the 64th annual Cannes Film Festival. The official poster is based on a photograph of the actress taken by Jerry Schatzberg in 1970.

The festival describes the image as a "model of sophistication and timeless elegance, it is an embodiment of the cinematic dream that the Festival de Cannes seeks to maintain."

Schatzberg, who won the Palme d’Or in 1973 for "Scarecrow," began his career as a photographer; his work was used on the cover of Bob Dylan's "Blonde on Blonde." Schatzberg also directed 1971's "Panic In Needle Park," which premiered at Cannes; star Kitty Winn won best actress at the festival for her performance.

Dunaway starred in Schatzberg's first film, "Puzzle of a Downfall Child," which Universal Pictures released in 1970. Universal has restored the film, which will be screened in Cannes with Schatzberg and Dunaway in attendance. Carlotta will re-release the film in France this fall.

The poster was designed by Paris' H5 design agency. You can download the poster here.

A quick take: It's a beautiful image, albeit awfully black; the saturation may make it hard to see across all media.

Tell us what you think of the poster; how does it compare to previous years'?
