With a new ceiling for eligible films set at $20 million, Film Independent in Los Angeles has announced the call for entries for the 21st Independent Spirit Awards. In a statement yesterday, group head Dawn Hudson said that the new ceiling "gave the committee wide latitude in choosing original, provocative films that are still made with an 'economy of means'." She added in the statement, "Film Independent continues to celebrate the wide spectrum of independent filmmaking - from micro-budget films by novice filmmakers to those produced by veterans with more available resources."
This year's event will again be held on the eve of the annual Academy Awards, on March 4th in Santa Monica, CA. Nominations will be unveiled on November 29th. Entries are being accepted through October 14, 2005. For more information, please visit the Film Independent website.
