Kirk Jones' "Everybody's Fine" will have its world premiere as a Gala presentation at AFI Fest 2009 in Los Angeles on November 3, 2009. The film - due to be released by Miramax on December 4th - is a remake of remake of Giuseppe Tornatore's "Stanno Tutti Bene," and stars Robert deNiro as a widower who, upon realizing his only connection to his family was through his wife, sets off on an impromptu road trip to reunite and reconnect with each of his grown children (played by Sam Rockwell, Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale). Kones, De Niro and Beckinsale will attend the premiere of the film.

AFI also announced the lineup for their New Lights Competition, created to "feature and honor vital, groundbreaking films by first- and second-time feature filmmakers from around the world." The lineup includes many films submitted for foreign-language consideration at the Oscars, including Xavier Dolan's "I Killed My Mother," Corneliu Porumboiu's "Police, Adjective," and Yaron Shani and Scandar Copti's "Ajami." Other films announced in the competitive section include Kyle Patrick Alvarez's "Easier With Practice," Maren Ade's "Eveyone Else," Andrea Arnold's "Fish Tank," Razvan Radulescu and Melissa de Raaf's "First of All, Felicia," Oren Moverman's "The Messenger," Claudia Llosa's "The Milk of Sorrow," Rigoberto Perezcano's "Northless," and Javier Rebello's "Woman Without Piano."

"The establishment of the AFI Fest New Lights Competition is another highlight this year," said AFI Fest Artistic Director Rose Kuo in a statement. "These films represent a selection of the year's most essential work from the international film festival circuit."

The festival's Director of Programming Robert Koehler added, "This competition is a great example of what we hoped to achieve with the programming for this year's festival. To a film, they are accomplished and challenging works that strive to be memorably cinematic.

AFI Fest runs October 30-November 7 in Los Angeles.
