First Look Media has acquired all North American rights to Ray McKinnon's southern gothic tale "Chrystal," starring Oscar-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton, ("Monster's Ball"), Lisa Blount ("Great Balls of Fire"), Harry Dean Stanton ("The Green Mile"), Ray McKinnon ("O Brother, Where Art Thou?"), and Walton Goggins ("The Bourne Identity"). The film, which had its world premiere at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, is slated for an April, 2005 theatrical release through First Look Pictures. First Look's acquisition V.P. Peter Lawson negotiated the deal with Cinetic Media's Micah Green. "Chrystal" is executive produced by Peter E. Strauss and produced by Lisa Blount, Walton Goggins, Bruce Heller, David Koplan and Ray McKinnon.

According to First Look, the film is a "southern gothic tale of justice and redemption, (in which) Joe (Thornton) returns home sixteen years after an accident that claimed his son's life and permanently inured his wife with the hoe of attaining her forgiveness. What he discovers instead is something much greater -- the possibility of winning back her love."

"Chrystal" is a very poignant story that highlights the deeply-rooted and rich cultures of the American southern gothic, which are brought to life the talented Academy Award-winners Billy Bob Thornton and director Ray McKinnon, commented Bill Lischak, president and COO of First Look Media in a statement. "We are excited to present this beautiful and telling drama to American audiences," added Lawson.

Upcoming First Look Pictures releases include John Irvin's "Boys and Girl from County Clare," and recent FLP titles include Christian Johnston's "September Tapes," and George Hickenlooper's "Mayor of the Sunset Strip." First Look Media is an integrated multimedia company with three divisions specializing in worldwide independent film licensing and distribution.
