First Spirit Award Goes to Harvey and Panavision

The 1998 Independent Spirit Awards won't be held until March 21, but the
FINDIE Award was announced yesterday. Robert H. Harvey and Panavision
were chosen by the IFP/West Board of Directors, as this years recipient.
The FINDIE (Friends of Independents) Award "acknowledges individuals and
organizations who have shown themselves to be preeminent in their
support of the independent filmmaking community." Harvey is currently
Senior Vice President of Sales at Panavision. Since joining Panavision
in 1984, Harvey has introduced the company to the Sundance Institute,
The IFP/West, Telluride Film Festival, Native American Festival, Women
in Film and DGA programs for women. In the past 15 years, Harvey has
helped literally hundreds of filmmakers get their projects off the
ground. Past recipients of the FINDIE award include: American Playhouse;
Channel Four; DuArt Laboratories; Samuel Goldwyn, Jr.; The John D. and
Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation; Miramax Films; Orion Classics;
Eastman Kodak Company; Bob Shaye and New Line Cinema; Sundance Film
Institute; Eric Weissmann; and Michael Barker, Tom Bernard, Marcie
Bloom and Sony Pictures Classics.


The 1998 Independent Spirit Awards will be broadcast live on the
Independent Film Channel.
