Focus Features Acquires New Thriller Starring Idris Elba and Adèle Exarchopoulos

Daniel Bergeron

Focus Features has acquired North American distribution rights to "Bastille Day," a Paris-set action thriller starring Idris Elba and "Blue is the Warmest Color" breakout Adèle Exarchopoulos.

"Bastille Day" centers on a rogue CIA agent who partners with an unsuspecting American con-artist living abroad to thwart a terrorist attack on French soil. The film, set to shoot this summer, will be directed by James Watkins ("The Woman in Black").

Studiocanal is financing the project as well as handling international sales and will distribute the film in France, UK, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.

The deal was negotiated by Beth Lemberger, Focus Features’ EVP of Business Affairs, and Anna Marsh, Head of International Sales for Studiocanal.

always thought he'd be the next great James Bond. maybe this is his warm up, not that he'd ever need one.

He should be Bond. Hopefully it won't be too late after Daniel Craig steps down.
