In an announcement sure to surprise many, James Franco and Anne Hathaway have been named as the co-hosts for the 83rd Academy Awards. Both Franco and Hathaway have appeared on the telecast, but not in hosting capacities.
Oscar telecast producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer explained the reasons behind their announcement in a statement, "James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons - fresh, exciting and multi-talented. We hope to create an Oscar broadcast that will both showcase their incredible talents and entertain the world on February 27. We are completely thrilled that James and Anne will be joining forces with our brilliant creative team to do just that."
Franco is touted as being contender this year for his turn in Danny Boyle's "127 Hours," while Hathaway was seen recently in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland," and Ed Zwick's "Love and Other Drugs."
