Dustin Smith has been named Vice President of Gravitas Ventures' new theatrical distribution division, the company announced. Smith was previously VP, Acquisitions and Business Affairs at Roadside Attractions. Gravitas' Theatrical's first release (out of 12 planned releases a year) will be "Felony" which they acquired out of the Toronto International Film Festival.

“Dusty’s track record has been unmatched over the last decade,” said Nolan Gallagher, CEO of Gravitas Ventures. "His reputation as a good-humored relationship builder with an uncanny knowledge of independent cinema made him an ideal choice to shepherd our new in-house theatrical division." Dustin will report to Michael Murphy, President of Gravitas.

At Roadside, Dustin is credited for the release of films such as "Winter's Bone" and this years Oscar hopefuls "Stories We Tell" and "All is Lost."

The release of "Felony" marks the first of Dustin's responsibilities at Gravitas, which includes creating advertising and distribution plans for Gravitas' theatrical releases, booking films abroad as well as attending film festivals to advise on acquisitions.

Directed by Matthew Saville (whose first film "Noise" premiered at Sundance in 2007), "Felony" follows a renowned cop played by the ever-popular Joel Edgerton as he tries to cover-up a mistake that may not only cost him his career, but puts his family in jeopardy. Edgerton also wrote the script. Gravitas plans to release "Felony" this summer across North America. The Solution Entertainment Group will handle international sales.
