The Provincetown International Film Festival Executive announced today that the 2009 Filmmaker on the Edge Award will be awarded to writer/director Guy Maddin. Previous honorees include Quentin Tarantino, Todd Solondz, Gregg Araki, Mary Harron, Todd Haynes, Gus Van Sant, Christine Vachon and John Waters.
The film festival will take place in Provincetown, Massachusetts from June 17-21, and will also fete actor Alessandro Nivola with the Excellence in Acting award, and Strand Releasing with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Woody Allen's "Whatever Works" has been announced as the fest's opening night film, while Jay DiPietro's "Peter and Vandy" will have its East Coast Premiere as the fest's closing night film. For more information, check out the festival's website.
