With all due respect to Roddy Piper's notable turn in "They Live," Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is the only pro wrestler turned actor whose extended big screen career has been worth a damn. He's a confoundingly good action star and has shown himself capable of more, which makes HBO's announcement (via Vulture) that it's developing a pilot for the man very interesting.
Johnson will executive produce and star in the untitled half-hour dramedy, which will be about current and former athletes living in Miami. His "Pain & Gain" co-star Mark Wahlberg (whose "Boardwalk Empire" is currently at HBO, the past home to his other production efforts "Entourage" and "How to Make It In America") is executive producing the project alongside Steve Levinson, who write the pilot. Peter Berg will direct.
