You can find so much of the filmmaking gear you need at your local thrift shop.

Indiewire is a huge fan of filmmaker Joey Shanks, who makes instructional videos for fellow DIY filmmakers. Last month we showed you a video tutorial Shanks made of different tips and tricks one can use to make films, so we're excited to share his latest video (which he produced in association with PBS Digital Studios).

In this clip Shanks shows how thrift shops can be a magical place filled with many great items that can serve as tools to help one become a better filmmaker.

Shanks and his team of filmmakers are also the only web-series nominated in the DIY category at the 18th Annual Webby Awards. Below are some of the tips and tricks to maximize your thrift store shopping experience.
