On the last day of Hot Docs 2014, Gaiam TV acquired the North American rights to "The Immortalists," the documentary from filmmakers David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg. The story of two extraordinary scientists struggling to create eternal youth with medical breakthroughs, the film had its world premiere at SXSW Film Festival in March.
As part of the deal, Gaiam TV will release the film in theaters in 2014 and will make it available on Gaiam TV, cable VOD and all digital/online retailers.
"It became apparent right away that 'The Immortalists' was the perfect film for GaiamTV to partner with," said Eric Lemasters, Vice President of Digital Business Development at Gaiam TV. "It touches all of the components that are important to us and our customers. The film challenges you through the facts of science, the nuances of human philosophy and the curiosity of human nature in ways that our fans expect from us. We look forward to being the platform to help elevate this title and the thought-provoking topics it addresses to the masses."
