Zeitgeist Films has announced the acquisition of all U.S. rights to this year’s Hot Doc’s Opening Night film "Act of God," directed by Jennifer Baichwal.
Produced by Nick de Pencier, Daniel Iron, and Baichwal, "God" explores the metaphysical effects of being struck by lightning. The film explores seven stories from around the world that raise and respond to these questions, while keeping the sky and what comes out of it as a central visual metaphor and thread.
Baichwal’s previous film, "Manufactured Landscapes," also released by Zeitgeist, won Best Canadian Feature at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival, as well as a Genie Award for Best Documentary.
An October theatrical release is planned by Zeitgeist Films. "Act of God" opens Hot Docs tomorrow night in Toronto. indieWIRE will be on hand at the fest, so check back for coverage.
