H’Wood Reporter: Chinese director has Oscar ‘Promise’

A contender for Oscar glory in 1994 with “Farewell My Concubine,” Chen Kaige again is representing mainland China’s hopes in the best foreign film race with “The Promise,” a $35 million film that ranks as the biggest ever made in China.
