IFP/West Taps Lee For Spirits Keynote, Pics Doc Nominees

Veteran indie voice Spike Lee will give the keynote address at the 1998
Independent Spirit Awards, joining some prestigious past speakers
including Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, Mike Leigh, Loius Malle
and.....Kevin Costner? Also announced were the finalists for the second
Truer Than Fiction award, given to "the director of a nonfiction feature
film of outstanding artistic and dramatic achievement." The winner of
the award, sponsored by the Independent Film Channel and Landmark
Theaters
, receives an unrestricted grant of $20,000. The nominees are:
Michele Ohayon's Oscar-nominated "Colors Straight Up," Macky Alston's
"Family Name," "Fast, Cheap & Out of Control" by Errol Morris, Kirby
Dick's "Sick: The Life and Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist" and
"Soul In The Hole," by Danielle Gardner.
