Mainstream horror has shifted from gore to ghosts and found footage in the past few years, but there's still room for a good old fashioned splatter film here and there. Image Entertainment has acquired "Cabin Fever: Patient Zero," the third film in the horror franchise started by Eli Roth's cult classic "Cabin Fever."
Directed by Kaare Andrews ("Altitude," "The ABCs of Death"), the film follows a group of friends enjoying a bachelor weekend in a yacht on the Caribbean. Because these things never go well, they find a remote island and stumble upon an abandoned research facility, where a deadly flesh-eating virus waits for them. They then have to find an uninfected survivor, "Patient Zero," in order to survive.
The film stars Sean Astin ("The Lord of the Rings"), Currie Graham (Pompeii), Ryan Donowho (Soldiers of Fortune"), Mitch Ryan ("One Tree Hill"), and Jillian Murphy ("Bad Ass"), and follows Ti West's disowned (but underrated) sequel "Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever." It was written by Jake Wade Wall ("The Hitcher") and produced by original "Cabin Fever" producer Evan Astrowsky.
Image Entertainment will release the film on VOD and in theaters summer 2014.
