Image Entertainment Snags 2 at AFM: 'Stranded' and 'Day of the Falcon,' With Antonio Banderas & Mark Strong

Image Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to two new films: the sci-fi thriller “Stranded” and the period drama “Day of the Falcon.” The company plans to release “Falcon,” which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, theatrically in early 2013 after an ultra-VOD release.

Antonio Banderas, Mark Strong, Freida Pinto and Tahar Rahim star in the $40-million “Falcon,” which was directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud. The film, which was shot in Tunisia and Qatar during the Arab Spring uprisings, tells the story of two emirs fighting over the discovery of oil in the Arabian Peninsula in the early 1900s.

“This is a terrific film for Image,” said Image chief acquisition officer Bill Bromiley. “‘Day of the Falcon’ has an amazing cast, an award-winning director and terrific visuals. It is truly an epic film and we are proud to be releasing it here in the U.S.”

Christian Slater, Brendan Fehr, Amy Matysio and Michael Therriault star in “Stranded,” the story of four astronauts trapped on a moonbase with strange, cell-replicating spores. Roger Christian directed, and Kevin DeWalt, Mark Montague and Isabella Battiston produced the Minds Eye Entertainment production in association with Moving Pictures Media.

“We’re very pleased to continue doing business with our friends at Minds Eye Entertainment,” said Bromiley. “Our first project with Kevin and his team was ‘The Tall Man,’ which was very successful for Image. We feel just as strongly about ‘Stranded’ and we know audiences will love it.”

Image has recently released "Goats," "The Tall Man" and "The Double."
