Twenty four feature films are on the slate for the annual Directors' Fortnight sidebar, set for May 13th - 23rd, concurrent with the Cannes Film Festival. Announced today by section artistic director Frédéric Boyer, the sidebar features four documentaries this year.

The section will open this year with Renaud Barret & Florent de la Tullaye's documentary "Benda Bilili!" Other docs on the roster include "Boxing Gym," the latest from non-fiction master Frederik Wiseman, as well as Stephen Kijak's "Stones In Exile."
Among the American indie titles at the festival this year is "Shit Year," Cam Archer's follow-up to "Wild Tigers I Have Known," starring Ellen Barkin. The film features Barkin playing a has-been Hollywood actress who, having a hard time facing retirement, has faces "a hallucinatory confrontation with life" and an affair with a much younger actor, played by Luke Grimes (TV’s "Brothers & Sisters").
Christoffer Boe will be in Cannes with "Alting bliver godt igen" (Everything Will Be Fine), as will Diego Lerman with "La Mirada invisible" (The Invivible Eye). Actor Louis Garrel will present his short, "Petit tailleur."
The lineup this year is heavy with work by newcomers. Eleven of the films on the roster are by first-time feature directors. All are competing for the Camera d'Or prize in Cannes.
"Films by well-known directors don't interest us as much," said Frédéric Boyer, in remarks translated by Variety, "The Quinzaine's purpose is to discover new talent. I'm more interested in filmmakers that have never been seen before."
Known in French as La Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, the non-competitive section was created by the French Directors Guild in the wake of the tumultuous events of May ’68.
