IndiePix Takes "Delilah" For U.S.

IndiePix has announced that it has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to Warwick Thornton's Australian love story "Samson & Delilah." The film was the winner of the Camera d'Or at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, and was Australia's selection for the foreign-language film category at last year's Academy Awards.

"Samson & Delilah is a wonderful film that honors the beauty of the Australian outback and respects the complex social relationships that exist there," IndiePix president Bob Alexander said in a statement. "Thornton's small crew and filming techniques capture that in an intimate and very moving way. This is an outstanding film as it completely raises the profile of Australian filmmaking; and we are especially pleased to have the opportunity to work with this team on this film's release."

The Internet-based distributor of independent films will release the film on October 15, 2010. The film will open at Cinema Village theater (Manhattan) and IndieScreen (Brooklyn) in New York City, at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica, California and to-be-determined theater in Washington DC. All openings will be accompanied by special events that "celebrate the achievements and recognitions that which 'Samson & Delilah' has won."

The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) will host a gala event featuring the film and a reception afterward. Warwick Thornton and others from the film and Broadway communities will participate. The National Geographic Society will feature the film as part of their All Roads Film Project in DC on Saturday, October 2nd. There will be an exclusive event following the All Roads opening hosted in part by the Australian Embassy. The Anaheim International Film Festival will present the film and host the director as part of the opening in Los Angeles. Members of the Australian film community in Los Angeles will partake in the opening celebration at the Aero Theater on Friday, October 15th.

Jason Tyrrell of IndiePix along with Adeline Tessaur and Eva Diederix of Elle Driver negotiated the acquisition of US distribution rights. Krysanne Katsoolis of Cactus Three participated in the negotiations for IndiePix. Marie Lemoine was IndiePix business affairs adviser on the transaction.
