Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

"Roots and Webs"

Tweetable Logline:

A Documentary about mushroom hunters, the Vietnam War, colliding histories and ensuing adventures in the stunning Oregon wilderness.

Elevator Pitch:

A hunt that commences each fall. Hundreds of Cambodian and Laotian refugees, American Vietnam Veterans and off-the-grid pioneers, descend on the Oregon woods in search of the elusive and lucrative matsutake mushroom. Amid the make-shift Mushroom Camps, histories collide, adventures ensue, and unforeseen connections are discovered spanning decades, wars and continents.

We love this film: the wild and calamitous mushroom camp world, the thrill of the hunt, the cultural and political history, the breathtaking landscape. It's the stuff of adventure and powerful storytelling, but we won't be able to make it a reality without your help.

Production Team:

Director: Sara Dosa
Producer: Josh Penn ("Glory at Sea," "Beasts of the Southern Wild")
Cinematographer: Star Rosencrans
Associate Producer: Alana Pryor Ackerman

About the Production:

"'Roots and Webs' is the culmination of my three passions: documentary film, cultural ethnography, and mushroom hunting. I have been an avid mushroom hunter for years and have come to know and love both the charming and eccentric people and fungus that inhabit this arcane world. There’s a thrill to mushroom hunting; it’s an adventure. It’s this drive and fervor –alongside personal stories and unexpectedly political histories—that I hope to portray on film. Truly, this is my dream job." -- Sara Dosa

Producton Status:

The film is preparing for production next week.
