iPOP at the Cannes Film Festival, Vol. 6

iPOP at the Cannes Film Festival, Vol. 6

by Brian Brooks/indieWIRE

Ahhh, the final iPOP from Cannes for the week... Actually, there are a couple of parties coming up over the weekend that indieWIRE received invitations for, including the closing-night bash, so there will probably be one more Cannes 2004 installment. This edition includes a couple of pics from earlier in the festival as well as more from IFC's 10th anniversary bash at the heavenly Hotel du Cap in addition to Killer Films' afternoon cocktail soiree at their villa about 10 miles from Cannes in the countryside.

Director Gary Winick ("Tadpole," "13 Going on 30") was among the party crowd this week at the plush Hotel du Cap Eden Roc in celebration of the IFC's 10th anniversary. The cash-only hotel (as in IFC and/or Target, its sponsor forked over the euros, invitees did not) only takes reservations from people referred to them, so no need to try for a good rate on hotels.com.

Actress and Cannes juror Tilda Swinton was smitten to run into actor Gael Garcia Bernal earlier in the fest. Bernal has two projects here, "Bad Education," which opened the Festival de Cannes out of competition, as well as Walter Salles' "The Motorcycle Diaries."

"Z Channel" director Xan Cassavetes lit up the evening in white at the IFC anniversary party on the patio overlooking the Mediterranean on a perfect warm evening. One party guest (NOT Xan) decided to take a dip into the pool, swimming around topless. Of course topless sunbathing in France is de rigeur, but perhaps a bit much for this event as staffers eventually arrived with a towel and requested she get out of the water. iPOP tried to get pictures, but unfortunately, they came out too dark.

Killer Films hosted a very lovely afternoon cocktail party at their villa outside of Cannes. Some guests had difficulty getting to their place Wednesday between traffic and trying to navigate the twisty narrow streets outside of Cannes, but the atmosphere was very relaxed and a nice break from the frenzy taking place on the Croisette. Killer head Christine Vachon, pictured here, played host. CAA agent Kevin Iwashina joined the afternoon soiree.

The crew from Warner Independent Pictures were representin' at the Killer cocktail party. The trio were about ready to leave for an appointment, but we caught them for a quickie just as they were heading out the door for a quick snap by the pool. Troy Poon from MTV Films (left) just met Neal Block from Palm Pictures a moment before this picture was taken of them at the Fortissimo cocktail party on the beach earlier this week. We're always happy when iPOP can bring people together.

Strand Releasing co-head Marcus Hu always brings his mother Evelyn to Cannes (her 16th trip here). Both stuck around for only a little while at the "Bad Education" party on opening night.
