Passersby at the UA East Hampton Theatre on Friday saw a red carpet and a small cadre of photographers waiting in the beautiful Hamptons sunshine for the arrivals of the cast of "Pieces of April," the new film by Peter Hedges. One young gawker said, "look, something special is happening..." The special happening got underway with the arrival of actor Patricia Clarkson, who stars in the film, as well as co-stars Derek Luke, Alison Pill, and John Gallagher Jr. Joining the scene were United Artists chief Bingham Ray as well as MGM head Chris McGurk. The film (and UA party) were held as a special program highlighting the upcoming Hamptons International Film Festival, which takes place October 22-26 in the legendary ritzy enclave on the south fork of New York's Long Island.

Hamptons fest executive director Denise Kasell and director of programming Rajendra Roy -- who celebrated his 31st at his house near town the previous night with a fun yet intimate blowout -- were there to greet guests including Hedges, actor Noah Emmerich, IFC Entertainment president Jonathan Sehring, a producer of the film along with InDigEnt, and others from the New York film community. After the screening, invitees headed over to Laundry, which recently got the coveted "in spot" designation from Hamptons Magazine.

"Pieces of April" star Patricia Clarkson worked the cameras in front of the UA East Hampton Theatre prior to the screening of the film. She and others seemed to want to linger outside as long as possible to catch those last rays.

Director Peter Hedges had a fine time socializing with the crowd at the party at Laundry, spending a lot of the time near the entrance as well wishers came up to chat (while photographers roamed by for some pics).
