iPOP at the Seattle International Film Festival

by Carl Spence

I used to be a part of the 25-day madness they call the Seattle International Film Festival prior to leaving for California in 2001 to head up the programming at the San Francisco International Film Festival. This year I had the pleasure of serving as a jury member for the New Directors competition with Wouter Barendrecht from Fortissimo Films and Gunnar Almer from the Swedish Film Institute. They put us up at the W Hotel. Fortunately our screenings were arranged for us to see them over the course of the last five days of the festival.

The closing weekend is always filled with nightly parties and the annual boat cruise. It was a great opportunity to discover new films and also catch up with the many friends at the festival.

Festival director Darryl Macdonald and managing director Helen Loveridge were perfect hosts making sure all of the filmmakers and guests had a lovely time. Capping off the experience was the rest of the dedicated staff that worked just as hard as they like to party!

Here are a few snapshots from the final week of the festival.
