Is the iFilmfest Mobile App an Organizational Savior for Indie Film Producers?

A team of filmmakers-turned-programmers has developed a mobile app that helps filmmakers manage submission deadlines and festival calendars. ifilmfest is a mobile app that tracks information on 300 of the world's top film festivals. It is currently available for the iPhone and iPad with plans to make an Android version designed by the Argentinian firm Movidromo.

Indiewire chatted with ifilmfest co-founder Rodrigo Rubano about the new platform.

"We did huge amounts of research," Rubano explained, "on the most influential festivals, and we came up with a list of 300. We knew we left out good festivals, but we grouped the most important and influential film festivals in the world."

For Rubano, the app's main feature allows filmmakers to group the festivals they want to track and import information and dates. Rubano said, "You can bring the information onto your computer, your mobile device, and you can easily contact each festival separately. The app allows you to program alerts when deadlines are coming up."

The team updates the database twice a month to look for new deadlines.

Rubano has been surprised how geographically diverse the purchasers of the app have been so far. He added, "We see this as a tool that can be helpful to professionals and amateurs, student filmmakers and professional filmmakers, feature films and short films."

The app is currently only available on iOS with English and Spanish interfaces, and has a $3.99 price tag.

For producers seeking a sleek interface to plan out their film festival circuit, this may beat going at creating a calendar without assistance.
