Montreal-based Atopia Distribution has acquired the North American rights to Aron Gauder's Hungarian comedy "The District!". "The District!," an animated musical satire that the 2006 Seattle International Film Festival described as "an Eastern European South Park" has played at nearly 60 fests across the world (including Toronto, Rotterdam and Karlovy Vary), winning awards at 13 of them. Atopia will be taking the film out theatrically in the United States and Canada begining next month, with engagements booked in Austin, Boston, Seattle, Montreal and Toronto. The film's theatrical run will be followed by a DVD release on December 4, 2007. [Peter Knegt]
