Maria Govan's drama "Rain" will open the 2008 Bahamas International Film Festival, taking place December 4 - 11 near the island nation's capital. Currently screening as a world premiere in the Toronto International Film Festival's Discovery section, "Rain" centers on a Bahamian adolescent who boards a mail boat and sets sail for Nassau determined to reconcile with the mother who abandoned her when she was just a toddler. A native of the Bahamas, Govan participated in BIFF's Filmmaker Residency Program back in 2005. [Brian Brooks]
