iW NEWS | Fortissimo Goes "Country"

Fortissimo Films announced today that it has acquired all rights outside Scandinavia for the Icelandic film "Country Wedding." Currently shooting in Iceland, the film is a comedic road movie about two busloads of Icelanders attending a wedding. Valdis Oskarsdottir (editor of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind") is directing, and the film is set for completion in time for the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.

"Country" is being produced by Gudrun Edda Thorhanesdottir, David Oskar Olafsson and Arni Filippusson for local Icelandic production companies Mystery Island, Duo Productions and Ave Productions. The deal was negotiated by Fortissimo's Senior Vice President - Development and Acquisitions Ashley Luke, Managing Director Nelleke Dressen and co-producer Jim Stark on behalf of the producers.

"This will be a very different and unique film and I am thrilled that Fortissimo has the opportunity to be working with Valdis after admiring her work as an editor," commented Ashley Luke. [Peter Knegt]
