Major numbers for a limited release film marked the openings of Ang Lee's "Lust, Caution" from Focus Features and Wes Anderson's "The Darjeeling Limited" from Fox Searchlight. Lee's "Lust" made an estimated $61,688 on a single screen, according to Focus, while Anderson's "Darjeeling" earned an estimated $66,000 on 2 screens this weekend, opening on Saturday after the film's New York Film Festival debut. In its second weeekend, Sean Penn's "Into The Wild" (from Paramount Vantage) earned an estimated $669,000 on 33 screens, according to Rentrak estimates provided today.
