iW NEWS | Weekend Estimates: "Devil", "Bella" Open Strong

Indiewire By Indiewire | Indiewire October 28, 2007 at 7:28AM

Sidney Lumet's "Before The Devil Knows Youre Dead" is poised to stand atop the iW BOT this week as estimates suggest the film took in $73,500 from its 2 screens for an average of $36,750. Perhaps equally impressive was the performance of Alejandro Gomez Monteverde's less high-profile "Bella" on 165 screens. It took in $1,324,000 for an average of $8,024. Other openers were not as successful. They included "Music Within", which averaged a decent $2,647 on 17 screens, Jonathan Demme's doc, "Jimmy Carter Man From Plains," which averaged an unfortunate $1,514 on 7 screens and Alison Eastwood's directorial debut, "Rails and Ties," which took in $10,000 on 5 screens for an average of just $2,000.
