Here's your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you'll have the chance to vote for your favorite.
In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.
"A Pale Shadow"
Two brothers living together in an impoverished shack on the outskirts of society begin feuding when their father dies.
Jesse is a young man living in poverty with his brother Ed, who is 20 years older. Both are stuck in hopeless situations, destined to stay poor and longing for more. Ed deals with it by getting drunk and violent, Jesse through painkillers. When their father dies, Jesse is determined to do something that might break him out. He decides to start small; dedicating himself to crafting a small oak table. Ed resents Jesse's attempt to be anything other than a hopeless case, and will do anything he can to keep Jesse where he feels he belongs.
Director: Sean Rourke Meehan ("Sophie" (SXSW 2010))
Writers/Producers: Sean Rourke Meehan and Gary Lauten
Producers: Alex Schepsman ("Martha Marcy May Marlene"), Josh Polon ("Kevin")
Cinematographer: Carl McLaughlin ("LITTLEROCK")
Editor: Gary Lauten
About the Production:
"My co-writer and I came from a small town in Northern California. We were constantly surrounded by people who seemed stuck in whatever situation they were in, destined to stay there. Worst than that was the idea that trying to be anything beyond that was lying to themselves. People there were content in their misery. This story is about breaking out of that hopeless cycle that you have either put yourself in, or had a family that put you there. Also, we like films with tension and are not afraid to disturb; this story was perfect for both those things." -- Sean Meehan
